No matter what you feel about Marie Kondo – and she does seem to bring out strong emotions in people – she has had an enormous influence on the world of decluttering. I used her method to declutter my home a couple of years ago and it worked exceptionally well for me so I am in the “love her” camp. I came across Marie in the photo below on her blog. I am not sure if it is her home or her office perhaps, but I love how the room is simple and minimal but also beautiful. So often minimalism seems to be about removing as much as possible from a room and leaving it looking decidedly ugly – unless you are lucky enough to have wonderful architecture. I am all about beautiful minimalism and feel depressed by the opposite. I like to be surrounded by beauty. It lifts my soul and inspires me. For some, this doesn’t seem to be important and that’s fine. For example, the bottom image below does not appeal to me at all, but I realize it may be someone else’s cup of tea. There are many different kinds if minimalism.
